Premique (Prempro) is a hormonal replacement therapy (HRT) taken in the form of a tablet. It is available in the dosage of 300mcg / 1.5mg. It's a period-free HRT treatment meaning that you don't have a monthly bleed, but contains two active ingredients, namely conjugated oestrogens and progestogen, making it suitable for women who have not had a hysterectomy. It helps to replace the depleted oestrogen levels in the body, alleviating problematic symptoms associated with the menopause and is available in this lower dosage suitable for women who are prone to side effects.
Premique contains the synthetic hormones conjugated oestrogens and medroxyprogesterone acetate. Conjugated oestrogens are natural oestrogens, meaning that they cause the body to respond in a very similar way to the oestrogen that is naturally produced. In general, conjugated oestrogen is considered better for HRT in comparison to the artificial oestrogens that are used in contraceptives.
By taking Premique, oestrogen levels can be kept as close as possible to normal to help alleviate menopausal symptoms. However, in women with a uterus, taking oestrogen can increase the risk of endometrial cancers.
Premique tablets should be taken daily for 28 days, ideally at the same time. Each pack contains the days of the week to ensure that you can keep track of whether you've taken your pill or not. There should be no break between the packs for consistent results.
When you first start using this treatment, you'll most likely be prescribed the lowest dose first to ensure that you don't experience side effects and that you benefit from the medication, as you should.
Premique tablets for Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT for women), it is a continuous combination of treatments, and are used to alleviate menopausal symptoms. They contain synthetic versions of estrogens and progesterone, which help restore naturally lowered hormone levels. Premique is prescribed, among other things, for the treatment of the following menopausal symptoms:
