MacroBid is an antibiotic used to treat bladder infections (acute cystitis) and can only be used for just that, not viral infections such as a common cold or the flu.
This medication is taken orally with food as directed by a doctor, usually twice daily (every 12 hours). Swallow whole for best results.
Side effects may include nausea and headaches. Should they persist or worsen inform your doctor or pharmacist promptly. The medication may also cause the urine to turn a dark yellow or brown, however, this is a harmless and temporary effect. Dark brown could mean more rare but serious conditions such as liver problems or anemia, in those cases it is important to see immediate medical attention.
It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.
