Skin problems such as redness, itchiness, and inflammation affect many people. You might not think much of it but it can actually reach a point where it can interfere with your daily life. The scalp isn't any different as it is also made out of the skin so the typical skin problems also apply to the scalp. Conditions such as seborrheic dermatitis or psoriasis that has reached the scalp are among the typical causes. Betnovate Scalp Application is one of the more effective treatment options for these problems as it contains betamethasone valerate which is a very strong steroid.

When you have any of these problems, what you mostly experience is not necessarily the condition but rather the side effect it causes the body. In most cases, the affected area becomes inflamed because of the condition which then causes the redness, itchiness, and pain. Betamethasone valerate comes from a drug category known as corticosteroids which are highly effective at stopping the inflammatory process.

When a body part or specific area is infected, the body releases chemicals to trigger the inflammatory response so that the immune system can combat the problem. These chemicals cause the blood vessels to dilate which causes the redness and swelling. Other chemical triggers also act up which then causes the irritation, itchiness, and pain felt.

Corticosteroids mask the inflammation by stopping the body from producing the chemicals that trigger the inflammatory response. Because of this, the person won't feel any of the symptoms and problems associated with the inflammation.

Since the inflammatory response is stopped, the blood vessels won't dilate which will stop the redness. This will also prevent most of the problems such as itchiness and pain. It is mostly used for inflammatory skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema that has reached the scalp and were unresponsive to weaker steroid treatments.

The medication should be applied twice a day preferably once in the morning and once in the evening. Once the condition gets better, dose and frequency should be reduced. Consult your doctor regarding this since it is important that you use only the directed dosage for maximum results and minimise adverse effects.

In using it, the liquid should be applied directly to the affected scalp using the nozzle that came with the bottle. Rub the liquid unto the scalp and leave it to air dry. Don’t use a hairdryer and just let the liquid dry on its own. Leave the medication in the scalp and avoid washing the hair after application. If you need to wash your hair, do it before applying the next dose.

Betnovate Scalp Application contains the active ingredient betamethasone valerate at 0.1% concentration. Since it is a prescription drug, getting the correct dosage is important so you should ask your doctor about it before using.

As with any medications, you need to watch out for any possible side effects and adverse reactions. In the case of corticosteroids, you need to be wary of other infections. Since it depresses the immune system, it can effectively stop the inflammatory response in the application area. However, as it is readily absorbed by the body through the skin, it will also depress the immune system of the entire body which makes you susceptible to other forms of infections.

Other uncommon side effects can also occur such as irritation in the application area, thinning of the skin, and increased hair growth in the area. However, this doesn't mean that it can be used as a hair growth treatment as this unintended side effect rarely happens and isn't a predictable response. In very rare cases, some may develop stretch marks in the affected area. There have been reported cases of weight gain, increase in blood pressure, or rounding of the face as these are secondary systemic side effects of steroids. Don’t be alarmed as they rarely ever happen normally. Avoid extended use in areas that have skin lesions or cracked skin as the body might absorb too much of the steroid too quickly which might increase the chances of getting these systemic side effects.
